چکیده
As barley and oat production have recently increased in Canada, it has become prudent to investigate these cereal crops as potential feedstocks for alcoholic fermentation. Ethanol other coproduct yields can vary substantially among fermented feedstocks, which currently consist primarily of wheat corn. In this study, the liquified mash milled grains from 28 (hulled hull-less) 12 cultivars were with Saccharomyces cerevisiae determine concentrations fermentation products (ethanol, isopropanol, acetic acid, lactic succinic ?-glycerylphosphorylcholine (?-GPC), glycerol). On average, produced significantly higher amounts ethanol, ?-GPC, glycerol than that oats. The best performing able produce up 78.48 g/L (CDC Clear) ethanol 1.81 ?-GPC Cowboy). Furthermore, presence hulls did not impact yield amongst cultivars. Due its superior compared oats, is a suitable feedstock production. addition, accumulation could add considerable value crops.

Fermentation of barley by using Saccharomyces cerevisiae: examination of barley as a feedstock for bioethanol production and value-added products.
The objective of this study was to examine the ethanol yield potential of three barley varieties (Xena, Bold, and Fibar) in comparison to two benchmarks, corn and wheat. Very high gravity (VHG; 30% solids) fermentations using both conventional and Stargen 001 enzymes for starch hydrolysis were carried out as simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. The grains and their corresponding drie...
متن کاملCopper Tolerance and Biosorption of Saccharomyces cerevisiae during Alcoholic Fermentation
At high levels, copper in grape mash can inhibit yeast activity and cause stuck fermentations. Wine yeast has limited tolerance of copper and can reduce copper levels in wine during fermentation. This study aimed to understand copper tolerance of wine yeast and establish the mechanism by which yeast decreases copper in the must during fermentation. Three strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (lab...
متن کاملEngineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae capable of simultaneous cellobiose and xylose fermentation.
The use of plant biomass for biofuel production will require efficient utilization of the sugars in lignocellulose, primarily glucose and xylose. However, strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae presently used in bioethanol production ferment glucose but not xylose. Yeasts engineered to ferment xylose do so slowly, and cannot utilize xylose until glucose is completely consumed. To overcome these bo...
متن کاملXylulose and glucose fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae in chemostat culture.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 24860 was cultivated in chemostat culture under anoxic conditions with 111.1 mmol of glucose liter-1 alone or with a mixture of 66.7 mmol of xylulose liter-1 and 111.1 mmol of glucose liter-1. The substrate consumption rate was 5.4 mmol g of cells-1 h-1 for glucose, whereas for xylulose it was 1.0 mmol g of cells-1 h-1. The ethanol yield decreased from 0.52 carbon ...
متن کاملXylose Fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae: Challenges and Prospects.
Many years have passed since the first genetically modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains capable of fermenting xylose were obtained with the promise of an environmentally sustainable solution for the conversion of the abundant lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol. Several challenges emerged from these first experiences, most of them related to solving redox imbalances, discovering new pathway...
